Local schools dive into Swim Gala at Swan Pool & Leisure Centre
In late 2025, we hosted an exciting Swim Gala, welcoming five local schools and a total of 50 enthusiastic young swimmers from years 4 and 5 who currently take part in swimming lessons at our centre.
The five participating schools were Lace Hill Academy, St James & St Johns School Primary School, Roundwood Primary School, Bourton Meadow Academy and George Grenville Academy.
Each student participated in five races – the 25m front crawl, 25m backstroke, boys relay, girls relay and a mixed relay. Following the competitive races, the children enjoyed a fun session in the pool, splashing around and taking a ride down the flume.
The gala concluded with Roundwood Primary School and Bourton Meadow Academy sharing joint first place, celebrating the impressive performances of all participants.
Chloe Brewer, Swimming Teacher at our centre, organised the gala. She said:
“The event was designed to provide local students with a fun and friendly competitive experience, allowing them to showcase the swimming skills they have developed through their lessons at our centre.
“Hosting events like this allows us to celebrate the achievements of young swimmers in our community. We were proud of the students’ performances, and feedback from them, their teachers and their parents was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the success of what we hope will become an annual event at Swan Pool.”
George Grenville Academy expressed their pride in the pupils’ enthusiasm and commended the event for bringing the school community together:
"I just wanted to say a huge thank you for the year 4 and 5 swim competition. What an amazing event — it’s so wonderful to see children who love swimming getting the chance to take part in a competition against other schools. We’ve already had so much positive feedback from our parents, and even parents from other year groups asking whether there will be a Year 6 swimming festival in the future! Thank you again for all the organisation, energy and support you put into making today so special."
